Black day today for Nepali judiciary: Nepal Bar
Nepal Bar Association has said that today, the day the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court assumed office as head of the executive, would go down in history as a black day for Nepali judiciary.
CJ Regmi's move to accept the position has blotted the judiciary's six-decade long history, and made a mockery of the multi-party democracy and the principles of free and independent judiciary, the association said in a statement after an emergency meeting of its executive committee.
The government’s decision to remove constitutional difficulties by invoking Article 158 of the Interim Constitution through is a fraud on the constitution it stated.
The association has also expressed dismay over the President's reluctance to consult legal experts and his undermining of a case subjudice at the Supreme Court. It has called on all to protest the four-party decision that has been imposed on the people in the name of democracy. nepalnews.com
