Polls possible in June: Ex election commissioners
Former election commissioners have said that the Constituent Assembly elections are possible in June.
Speaking at the Reporters Club Saturday, former election commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said the elections can take place in June as the Election Commission has already been making essential preparations. According to him, the EC had started preparations when the previous Baburam Bhattarai-led government announced fresh CA polls for November 22, 2012 after the dissolution of the CA.
Despite the technical preparations from the EC, the parties need to show willpower and commitment to the elections, Yadav further said.
Another former election commissioner Surya Prasad Shrestha said that since the only mandate of the interim government is to hold the elections there is clear possibility of the elections taking place early June.
Speaking at the same programme, former election commissioner Birendra Mishra said that the country's election mechanism is capable of conducting the elections within three months. "Elections were held even during a tough time when the Maoist conflict was going on," he said and emphasised that the parties need to show willpower for the elections.
Signing an 11-point agreement on Wednesday, the four major parties agreed to hold CA polls by June 7. Nepalnews.com
