World Day of Happiness being observed today
The first-ever World Happiness Day is being observed around the world on Wednesday to promote happiness as a universal goal and aspiration in the lives of human beings around the world.
The day is being observed after the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 65/309 declaring that March 20 each year shall be observed as “International Day of Happiness”
The UN Resolution recognises the “relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.” The UN has invited all 193 member-states, organisations of the UN system, and other international and regional organisations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to observe the International Day of Happiness through education and public awareness-raising activities.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon remarked, “We need a new economic paradigm that recognises the parity between the three pillars of sustainable development. Social, economic, and environmental well-being are indivisible. Together they define gross global happiness.” Nepalnews.com
