UCPN (M) forms two panels to prepare for polls

The ongoing meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee has formed two panels in preparation for the upcoming elections.

A committee, headed by General Secretary Posta Bahadur Bogati will decide on the name list of leader who will contest the elections. The panel has Barsa Man Pun, Lelamani Pokharel, Shakti Basnet, Hisila Yami, Girirajman Pokharel, Prabhu Shah, Haribol Gajurel and Devendra Paudel as members, said party Spokesperson Agni Sapkota.

Similarly, the party also formed a nine-member committee under Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai to prepare the party’s manifesto. Lekhraj Bhatta, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Bishwa Bhakta Dulal, Gopal Kirati, Sashi Shrestha, Dilliraj Khanal, Bishwa Nath Shah and Dharma Dutta Devkota have been named members of the committee, Sapkota informed.

The first meeting of the central committee since its 7th general convention in Hetauda started at the party"s headquarters in Peris Danda, earlier today. The meeting, which was supposed to take place immediately after the meet last month. However, it had been postponed indefinitely due to marathon talks among political forces to form the new government.

The committee is to nominate 52 new CC members, some office-bearers including the secretaries and treasurer and announce the new standing committee and politburo. Party leaders said they will also use the meeting to work on their strategy for the soon-to-be declared polls. nepalnews.com
