SAARC finance meet begins in Kathmandu

A seminar on Regulation and Supervision of Microfinance Institutions in the SAARC Region kicked off at Gokarna, Kathmandu, on Wednesday.

The seminar, organised by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), saw Governor Yubaraj Khatiwada urge microfinance institutions to focus on uplifting the living standards of rural people.

´SAARC Finance´ was established in 1998 as a regional network of SAARC bank governors and finance secretaries.

He said the government has given high priority to easy loans for the poor and improved financial services to eradicate poverty. Representatives from Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Maldives and Sri Lanka are taking part in the three-day event. Nepalnews.com
