Regmi seeks consensus among student unions for FSU election
Chairman of the interim election council Khil Raj Regmi Friday urged the student unions to come to an understanding on the date for the election of Free Students Union (FSU) without coinciding with or hampering the Constitution Assembly (CA) election.
During a meeting with the agitating 11 student unions, Regmi, who is also the chancellor of the universities in his capacity of the head of the government, said the FSU election is possible only after consensus between the student unions.
On the occasion, representatives of the student unions including Nepal Students Union (NSU) and All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) submitted 11-point memorandum to Regmi demanding early election of FSU, withdrawal of the nomination of former chief secretary Lok Man Singh Karki as the chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and rollback on the government decision to hike public transportation fares, among others.
The head of the government said he was positive about the demands of the students, student leaders said after the meeting. nepalnews.com |
