The European Union (EU) and its member states have expressed willingness to support the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
In their first meeting with Foreign Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire at his office in Singha Durbar Friday, the EU envoys said they always ready to provide necessary support to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Dr. Alexander Spachis, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal, said Chief Justice-led Interim Electoral Council (IEC) is meant to hold the election and that the EU is ready to support this task.
"The IEC has the main responsibility to hold the elections and it should concentrate on holding the elections successfully," he said.
Commenting on the newly issued ordinance on Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Spachis clarified that there is no need to comment on ordinance since the UN high commissioner had already issued comment in this regard. He said the EU is studying this ordinance closely.
"Our talk with the Foreign Minister and high level officials was very positive. We talked different issues mainly the CA election," he explained.
