EC to publish preliminary list of parties participating in polls under PR system today
The Election Commission is all set to publish the initial list of the political parties participating in the election to the Constituent Assembly under proportional electoral system Tuesday.
The Commission is making this list public a day after a total of 124 political parties applied at the EC to participate in the November 19 CA election.
As per the work calendar of EC, Monday marked the official start of activities for the Constituent Assembly election and the conclusion of parties' registration under the proportional representation (PR) system.
Representatives from various political parties had filed their application for the PR system at the central office of the Election Commission at Kantipath Kathmandu on Monday. According to reports, small parties had their chairmen present for filing the applications while others sent party representatives for the same. CPN-UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal was the only leader from the major parties who personally went to apply at the EC. Each political party was asked to deposit Rs 10,000 along with the application that clearly detailed full information of the party.
According to the work calendar of the EC, the political parties which have applied for the PR system have time till today to withdraw their name list. The EC will publish the final list of parties participating in the election under proportional system on October 3 and the parties would send the candidate names through closed list on October 4. nepalnews.com
