Koirala, Nembang secure electoral candidacy from home districts, Khanal yet to be final contender
Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and senior CPN-UML leader and former speaker, Subash Nembang have been nominated as the candidates from their home districts of Banke and Ilam Sunday. UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal, however, has to see if he can be the final contender for the upcoming Constituent Assembly polls.
A meeting of Nepali Congress regional committee recommended Koirala unanimously from Banke Constituency No 1, which is a stronghold of the party.
Similarly, CPN-UML regional committee has recommended Nembang unanimously for Ilam Constituency No 2.
As for UML chairman Khanal, the regional committee has recommended his name along with four other contenders, implying that a final decision will be taken by the party's central committee as to who will be the final contender.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Khanal is also interested to fight from any constituency in Kathmandu valley, so that contesting from two constituencies will help him secure a birth in the Constituent Assembly. nepalnews.com
