EC to start printing ballot paper in three weeks time
The Election Commission (EC) has said it would start printing the ballot paper with 169 different signs of political parties within three weeks time.
Speaking at a press meet at his office in the Election Commission in capital on Sunday, Chief Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti said that as it would take 40 to 45 days to print 30 million ballot papers, the EC will start printing the ballot paper in three weeks time.
The EC had printed about 40 million ballot papers for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election held in April, 2008. But since the EC has registered around 12.5 million voters with photo and biometrics, which is 5.5 million fewer than the total number of voters registered in the previous CA, the EC has also decreased the number of ballot papers going to be printed.
The number of political parties registered with EC has, however, doubled from that of the previous elections, which can create few problems on things such as printing the ballot paper, experts say.
Similarly, the EC is all set to start printing voters’ identity card for 12.5 million registered voters in few days time. nepalnews.com
