CoAS Trophy 2070 kicks off
The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Trophy 2070 kicked off at the Nepalese Army Physical Fitness and Training Centre in Lagankhel on Sunday. CoAS General Gaurav SJB Rana inaugurated the annual sports event amid a special function.

The CoAS Trophy participants will compete against each other in athletics, swimming, football, volleyball, basketball, boxing, twaekendo and cycling.
According to the press release issued by the Nepal Army, 11 teams of the Nepali Army-- six Division Headquarters, four Supporting Arms Directorates and one from Special Forces—will be vying for the Trophy.
A new army record for women’s 100 metres was set on the first day of the event. The previous record was broken by Gunner Durga Kumari Devkota, who reached the finishing line in only 12.94 seconds. In the men's 100m category, L/Cpl Himal KC bagged the gold medal. Sunday’s events ended with participants competing the men's 1500 metres category. Cpl Hari Kumar Rimal was able to secure first place in the race.
During the inaugural ceremony, 100 Nepal Army athletes who had won in national and international tournaments were felicitated for their contribution to national sports.
CoAS Trophy is an annual sporting event organized by the Nepalese Army to foster cooperation and a healthy competitive spirit between different units of the NA. The teams are awarded points based on their players’ performance. The team with highest ranking is awarded the CoAS Trophy on the Army Day to be held in February next year. nepalnews.com
