President honours actor Rajesh Hamal, social worker Pushpa Basnet
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has honoured a total of 136 persons including movie actor Rajesh Hamal and national cricket team captain Paras Khadka with various prestigious awards Thursday.
Civil servants, dignitaries and social workers were also among those honored by medals as announced by the government on the occasion of the Republic Day, 2070 BS.
At a programme organised at the Office of the President in Sheetal Niwas on Thursday, President Dr Yadav presented Sukirtimaya Rastrapadiya Medal to four persons, Suprabal Janasewashree to 52 persons, Prabal Janasewashree to 64 and Janasewashree to 16 persons, state-owned news agency RSS reports.
Strangely enough, only state-owned television, radio and paper were allowed to cover the event.
Chancellor of Nepal Fine Arts Academy Kiran Manandhar, Vice-Chancellor of Academy of Nepal Music and Drama Prachanda Malla, Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher JBR and Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Yubraj Khatiwada were honored from Sukirtimaya Rastrapadiya Medal.
Likewise, Swami Chetananda Giri, actor Rajesh Hamal and social worker and CNN Hero award winner Pushpa Basnet, among others were also honored on the occasion.
Vice-President Parmananda Jha, Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, Chiefs of constitutional bodies and high-level government officials were present at the programme. nepalnews.com
