New 100-rupee note features Buddha birthplace Lumbini
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced a 100-rupee note featuring Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha.
The central bank said that the note has been already circulated in the market and it will be accessible during the Dashain festival, Xinhua reports.
“The new note features a backdrop of Ashoka Pillar along with attested message that Buddha was born in Lumbini in its front side.” the Chinese news agency quoted NRB spokesperson Bhaskar mani Gyanwali as saying.
Similarly, the note also features Buddha's mother Mayadevi's portrait in silver metallic in front.
This is the first time that the NRB has attested the message in a 100 rupee denomination. The bank has also planned to do the same in other notes as well gradually.
Gyawali also believes that the new note would be helpful to acknowledge foreigners about Lumbini. nepalnews.com
