DRI produces items seized from Thapa’s law firm before SC; discussion on stay order begins
The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) on Tuesday produced all the items and equipments it seized from the law firm owned by former Nepal Bar Association (NBA) president Shambhu Thapa before the Supreme Court (SC).
The DRI returned the items as per the SC’s order to the government to produce it on September 10, when the discussion whether additional stay order is required on DRI’s probe into the alleged tax evasion charges against senior advocate Thapa’s law firm is to start.
The SC had on Sunday ordered the DRI to halt investigation into the alleged tax evasion charges against Thapa’s law firm in response to the writ petition he filed at the SC accusing DRI of carrying out an “illegal raid” on his law firm.
The single bench of Justice Prakash Wosti had also ordered the Department not to implement the letter handed to Putalisadak-based Legal Advisors Law Firm owned by advocate Thapa on the charges of tax evasion.
DRI had last Friday raided 6 private firms, including the law firm of former NBA president Thapa on tax evasion charges. nepalnews.com
