HLPC now to focus full attention on Nov polls
High Level Political Committee (HLPC) has decided to focus all its attention on the Constituent Assembly (CA) election scheduled for November 19 while still keeping the door for talks with poll-opposing alliance led by CPN-Maoist open.
A meeting of the HLPC held at its office in New Baneshwor took a decision to this effect.
Emerging from the meeting, Nepali Congress vice president Ram Chandra Poudel said that the meeting decided to move ahead by focusing all it attention on making the necessary preparation for the upcoming election while keeping the door for dialogue with CPN-Maoist open.
Earlier today, top leaders of six political parties in the HLPC met President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the latter’s office in Shital Niwas and assured him not to doubt their capability of carrying out the CA election successfully on the stipulated date.
Similarly, they also briefed the President regarding progress in the ongoing election process, adding that they are leaving no stones unturned to bring CPN-Maoist into understanding and make it participate in the polls.
The top leaders of UCPN (Maoist), NC, CPN (UML), UDMF, MJF and FSPN also urged the President to use his good offices to help forge an understanding with the alliance of poll-opposing parties led by CPN-Maoist, it is learnt.
In response, President Yadav advised the leaders to go to the election only after forging consensus and understanding with all the political parties and stakeholders, reports quoted President’s press advisor Rajendra Dahal as saying.
Dahal said the President is also positive about the request of the political parties to talk with Mohan Baidya led CPN-Maoist in order to bring the latter into understanding and agree to participate in the upcoming polls. nepalnews.com
