Conclude talks process soon: CEC Uprety to parties
Chief Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Uprety Wednesday urged the major political parties to shortly conclude all efforts of reaching an understanding with the disgruntled smaller parties vis-à-vis the November polls.
Speaking with journalists, CEC Uprety said that the natural path of registering political parties with the Commission has already expired. "Only a new constitutional decree or provision can allow the unregistered parties to get enrolled for election," Uprety said.
The process of designing the format of ballot paper has started today, Uprety said, adding that it may be too late, if the parties do not reach a conclusion as early as possible.
Commenting on the CPN-Maoist's stance of boycotting the polls, Uprety said such a move will not pose a challenge to election.
"The national law does not permit us to forcefully convince them to take part in the election, nor it permits anyone to obstruct the election process," he said.
Uprety further said all necessary laws required to conduct the elections should be enacted in time.
"All understanding reached with various political parties need to be translated into law, so as to ensure timely election," added the CEC. Nepalnews.com
