CPN-M ready to partake in Nov 19 polls if parties agree on changing interim govt: Gurung
CPN-Maoist secretary Dev Gurung has said his party is ready to participate in November 19 elections provided that the chairperson of Interim Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi is made to tender his resignation and a new government is put in place as per Article 38 of the Interim Constitution.
Speaking at an interaction organised by Reporters Club Nepal on Thursday, leader Gurung said, “We are open to the choice of person for the post of prime minister of the new election government. However, we are not insisting that an independent or a party candidate should lead the new government.”
He said his party won’t express any objection if any political party proposes Regmi as its prime ministerial candidate, provided that Regmi has already resigned from his post of Chief Justice.
Gurung cited the recent instance of the Supreme Court quashing 17 petitions filed in the apex court challenging the decision to remove constitutional difficulties to pave way for appointments to constitutional bodies and the anointment of the chief justice as the executive head, and described it as a negative outcome of giving the executive, legislative as well as judicial powers to a single person.
“If this situation continues then it would give rise to another kind of authoritarianism in the country,” he said. Nepalnews.com
