Renowned folk singer Gandharva dies at 60
Popular folk singer Tirtha Gandharva, known for such classics as 'Balla Pareu Nirmaya Makuri Jalaima' and other popular old Nepali folks songs, passed away on Friday. He was 60.
Gandharva breathed his last at around 2 am today morning at Chhauni-based Military Hospital in the capital where he was undergoing treatment after suffering from heart attack on Thursday, reports quoted family sources as saying.
The folk singer had been suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes since long.
Gandharva, who was born in Chowkchisapani in Tanahu in 1957, had served in Radio Nepal as a musician (sarangi player) for 30 years. He belongs to the Gandharva community of Nepal who are skilled singers and sarangi players and earn their living through music.
He is survived by two wives, five sons and six daughters. nepalnews.com
