Student unions shut petrol pumps to protest price hike
Different student unions have closed down the petrol pumps of private sector across the country for three days from Sunday as part of their protest against the price hike of petroleum products by the government recently.
The student organisations including Nepal Students Union (NSU), All Nepal National Free Students' Union (ANNFSU), All Nepal National Independent Students' Union (Revolutionary), and those associated to the CPN-Maoist jointly called the petrol pumps' shut down, demanding withdrawal of the decision to hike the price by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
The state oil monopoly had increased the price of petrol by Rs 5 per litre, kerosene and diesel by Rs 3 per litre and aviation fuel for domestic purpose by Rs 7 per litre on September 10.
NSU leader UP Lamichhane said that the petrol pumps are closed to pile pressure to correct the decision of price hike.
The oil monopoly has also called the unions for talks, Lamichhane added. “The student unions will join the discussion with NOC after the meeting.” RSS
