Kathmandu dominates Nat’l Judo Championship
Kathmandu has clinched the gold medal in the men´s team event of the 12th National Judo Championship held at Multiple Martial Arts, Nayabazaar in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The team, comprising of Saroj Maharjan, Ramesh Magar, Mohan Sunar, Deepak Krishna Shrestha and Sanjay Maharjan, won gold in the final day of the Championship.
Similarly, Nepal Police Club finished for silver and Nepal Army has to satisfy for bronze in the Championship.
In the women’s team event, Nepal Police Club team, comprising of Sita Chaudhary, Radha Devi Rai, Sushila Adhikari, Pramila Khadka and Indira Rai, claimed gold while Kathmandu won silver and Banke finished third for bronze medal in the event.
During the three-day event, Kathmandu stood at first spot winning total 11 medals including 6 gold, 4 silver and a bronze, ahead of 16 other districts that had participated in the Championship.
Similarly, Police finished second winning 5 gold, 2 each silver and bronze while Nepal Army secured third with 2 gold, 3 each silver and bronze.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police Club’s judoka Prakash Nepali (U-73kg) was declared the best male player of the championship while Nepal Army´s Leela Adhikari (U-48kg) won the best female player award.
Likewise, Diwakar Basnet of Lalitpur and Sushila Adhikari of Police won best ippon awards.
The four best players also received Rs 1000 each.
Altogether, 156 judokas, including 93 male and 63 women from 17 districts along with three departmental teams – Nepal Police, Army and Armed Police Force participated in the event.
The players competed in 14 individual and two team events. nepalnews.com
