Finland pledges Rs 1.85 b for rural water, sanitation project
The Finland government has agreed to provide a grant assistance of Rs 1.85 billion to the government for the implementation of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Western Nepal (RWSSP WNII).
The agreement to this effect was signed between Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Madhu Kumar Marasini and Finnish Ambassador to Nepal Asko Luukkainen amidst a function at the Finance Ministry on Monday.
The grant assistant will be utilised to help the locals improve health and socio-economic status through safe sanitation and drinking water practices.
The project will be implemented in nine districts of Mid-western and Western Nepal. They include Pyuthan, Myagdi, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahu, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi in the initial phase and Gulmi to be added later.
The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development is the implementing agency of the project. The project will be in operation for five years, according to the Ministry. nepalnews.com
