All-party meet ends in fiasco as Baidya Maoist refuses to buzz
The third round of all-party meeting ended in a fiasco Monday, as the CPN-Maoist did not give up the demands for the resignation of Interim Election Council Chairman, Khil Raj Regmi and postponing elections to March/April (Chaitra).
"The CPN-M could not come to a compromise in regard to Mr Regmi's resignation as chief justice. It is difficult for us to go for Mr Regmi's resignation, as it misleads the whole electoral process," said Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel.
"It would be difficult for us to join a non-partisan government, as the IEC chair did not step down. As parties refused to accept our proposal, the talks could not reach a compromise," said Deb Gurung, CPN-M secretary.
The meeting was held at the office of High Level Political Committee in New Baneshor, Kathmandu, amid pressure from Presidnet Ram Baran Yadav to reach to a conclusion, keeping in mind the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections in November.
The first and second rounds of talks were held respectively on Friday and Sunday at President Yadav's office at Shital Niwas.
The talks were mainly focused on bringing the CPN-M chaired by Mohan Baidya and its alliance of smaller parties on board the election process. Nepalnews.com
