Ratnajeet and Sara defend title in Nat’l Badminton Championship
Tamang siblings Ratnajeet and Sara Devi have won the title in the men´s and women´s singles respectively in the Third Li-Ning Pushpa Lal Memorial Ranking National Badminton Championship held at the covered hall of National Sports Council, Tripureshwar, on Monday.
Ratnajeet and Sara of Nepal Army Club (NAC) are both defending champions.
Sara Devi defeated her own younger sister Nangsal Devi 23-21, 18-21 and 21-16 in the women’s singles final. Nangsal Devi is also from NAC.
With the win, Sara bagged Rs 31,000 while her sister Nangsal received Rs 24,000 as runner up.
Similarly, Ratnajeet defeated Bikash Shrestha of Armed Police Force (APF) 18-21, 21-13 and 21-14 in the men´s singles final to defend title. Ratnajeet was awarded Rs 39,000 and Bikash Rs 32,000.
Meanwhile, the duo Ratnajeet and Ram Rai clinched the men´s doubles title defeating Bishnu Katuwal and Bijeet Thapa of Nepal Police Club 21-23, 21-17 and 22-20 in the final.
Similarly, Pooja Shrestha and Sabina Panthi of APF beat NAC´s Sara and Nangsal in two straight sets 21-18, 21-15 to claim the title of the women´s doubles.
Dipesh Dhami won the title of U-19 boys´ singles thrashing Bijeet Thapa Magar of Police 21-9, 21-16 in straight sets while Shiksha Shrestha of APF claimed title in the girls’ section beating Shreya Pradhan of Army 21-11, 21-8.
Likewise, Anish Shrestha of Lalitpur clinched the U-15 boys´ singles defeating Nir Bikram Devkota of Kathmandu 29-27, 21-16 while Jessica Gurung of Army defeated her departmental mate Mega Chand 21-19, 21-19 in the girls’ section.
The duo Hari Shrestha and Purna Budhathoki of APF thrashed the pair of Rajendra Shakya and Nirman Shrestha of Baglung to take the title of above-45 years veterans´ doubles while team of Madan Karmacharya and Naresh Tamrakar of Lalitpur defeated the pair of Pushpa Shreshta and Bir Bahadur Shrestha in the final of above-55 years veterans doubles. nepalnews.com
