Finance Minister meets EU Commissioner Piebalgs in Brussels, gets assurance for poll support
Minister of Finance Shankar Prasad Koirala called on European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs in Brussels, the capital of Belgium on Monday.
During the meeting, Commissioner Piebalgs reaffirmed the continuous EU support to Nepal's democratic process including through the EU Election Observation Mission, which will be deployed for the forthcoming elections, according to a statement issued by the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal.
Commissioner Piebalgs announced plans to increase significantly EU's development assistance to Nepal for the period 2014-2020 with a view to bringing added value in three major sectors: integrated rural development, education and governance.
Minister Koirala stressed the instrumental role of EU support over the years in the political and economic development of Nepal, and underlined that Nepal was moving towards more political stability with elections for Constituent Assembly to be held on the 19 November.
