Govt opens fair price shops for Dashain, Tihar
The government has opened fair price shops in a bid to provide subsidy in the essential commodities during the upcoming festive seasons of Dashain and Tihar.
The four state-owned agencies including National Trading Limited (NTL), Salt Trading Corporation (STC), Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) and Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) are jointly operating fair price shops at Ram Shah Path, Teku, Koteshwar, Kalimati, Lagankhel, Bhaktapur and Surya Binayak.
Chief Secretary Leela Mani Poudyal formally inaugurated the fair price shop at NTL on Ram Shah Path on Tuesday. The shops will run for 90 days.
Inaugurating the fair price shop, Poudyal said that the government has been operating such fair price shops every year to provide daily essential commodities at reasonable rates to the general people and control black-marketing.
The government will take strong action to those involved in the black-marketing and misappropriation in the supply of food, said Poudyal.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS), the fair price shops has offered discounts of Rs 5 per kg on sugar, Rs 2 per kg on salt and rice, and Rs 10 per litre on ghee produced by DDC.
Similarly, STC said that it will announce discounts in other daily essentials as well within few days. Nepalnews.com
