EC tweaks date for registration of candidacy without affecting final date
The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for the registration of candidacy by a week a day after cabinet's request for the same on Thursday.
A meeting of the EC held today afternoon extended the deadline for the registration of candidacy without affecting the final date of Constituent Assembly election scheduled for November 19.
With the latest extension, the proportional candidates will now have to be registered by September 30, while the direct candidates have to be registered by September 17.
The request was made so that the closed list of proportionate candidates and open list of direct candidates could be submitted without hassles, it is learnt.
Parties lost few weeks holding futile talks with the alliance of 33 smaller parties in a bid to bring them on board the election process. It delayed parties' preparation for the registration of their candidates with the Commission. nepalnews.com
