Youths protest against Indian media in Birgunj
Youths of Birgunj on Saturday protested against the Indian media, including TV channels, for distorting that Buddha was born in India, instead of Nepal.
The protest was instigated especially by a program of Zee TV, an Indian Channel, which said Buddha was born in India.
The protest rally started from Ghantaghar Chowk and passed through Maisthan, Adarsh Nagar, Alkhiya Chowk and Ghadi Arwa. The protest converged into a corner meeting again at Ghantaghar Chowk.
Speakers of the meeting warned that they will launch stronger protests, if any faulty publicity about Buddha's birthplace is done by any one.
The youths further said they would also perform candle light vigil at Ghantaghar Chowk on Saturday evening to alert all concerned stakeholders.
According to UNESCO, Buddha was born in Lumbini of Rupandehi in western Terai plains of Nepal. The shrine has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On September 15, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu made it clear that Buddha was indeed born in Lumbini, Nepal.
Taking to twitter micro-blogging site, the Kathmandu-based Indian mission said, “The question of where Lord Buddha was born was settled 2000 yrs ago when Ashoka installed the pillar with his inscription in Lumbini, Nepal.”
