Nepal Army’s athletes dominate Real Kathmandu Marathon
Nepal Army Club (NAC) dominated the seventh edition of Real Kathmandu Marathon as Uttam Khatri won the title clocking 2 hours 32 minutes 1 second while other his departmental mates Krishna Basnet and Rajan Khatri secured second finishing 2 hours 32 minutes 40 seconds and third with the timing 2 hours 33 minutes 54 seconds spots respectively held in the capital on Saturday.
Sonu Jaya Rai of Armed Police Force (APF) clinched gold with the timing 3:36:44 in the 42.195km women’s section.
NAC’s Raj Kumar Bista (1 hour 11 minutes 51 seconds), Hom Lal Shrestha (1 hour 12 minutes 8 seconds) and Tirtha Bahadur Tamang (1 hour 12 minutes 24 seconds) secured first, second and third spots respectively in men’s half marathon while Bindra Shrestha of APF (1 hour 31 minutes 45 seconds), Sarita Bashi of NAC (1 hour 43 minutes 54 seconds) and Narayan Devi Singh of Kathmandu (1 hour 45 minutes 30 seconds) finished the top three positions respectively in the women’s category.
In open 5km men’s category, Kalyan Baniya of Army clinched the title finishing the race at 16 minutes 46.1 second while APF’s Laxman Malla Thakuri finished second clocking 16 minutes 47.5 and Kiran Malla third at 16 minutes 48.3 second.
In open 5km women’s category, Bishrupa Bhudha of Army finished first with the timing 20 minutes 7 minutes 2 seconds while Kanchi Maya Koju of APF secured second clocking 20 minutes 21 minutes 6 seconds and Laxmi Pandey of Army finished third at 20 minutes 35 seconds 8 seconds.
Meanwhile, Sarad Shah of DAV (17:22.6) Bikash Rai of Sankhuvashabha (17:24.1) and Babu Ram Majhi of Shree Chandi HS Nuwakot (18:20.5) secured first, second and third spots in 5km school boy’s section while Sangita Khadka of Bijeshwori GM School (20:57.4), Humi Budhamagar of Sitapaila HSS (22:14.0) and Sarmila Chhetri of Gladstone Academy (22:55.1) won in the girl’s section.
In 2.5km wheel chair men’s, Bharat Adhikari (11:57.1) Krishna Raj Adhikari (12:14.5) and Raju Katuwal (12:18.2) won the top three spots while Jyoti Aryal (16:04.9), Yani Jhakrimar (16:31.0) and Sonika Dhakal (18:18.2) won in women’s section.
This was the seventh edition of Ream Kathmandu Marathon. The race included 10 categories — marathon, half marathon, 5km open race, 5km school race and 3km wheelchair race in both male and female sections. Top three athletes in both men and women’s marathon races will received Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, while top three athletes in half marathon will take home Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000. nepalnews.com
