Request Prez to invoke Article 158 for army mobilisation during polls, HLPC tells govt
The High Level Political Committee (HLPC) on Monday formally directed the government to request the President to remove constitutional difficulties for mobilisation of Nepal Army during November 19 Constituent Assembly election.
A meeting of the cross party mechanism led by four major political parties asked the government to forward another ordinance to President Ram Baran Yadav concerning invoking article 158 of the Interim Constitution to remove the constitutional hurdles in mobilization of Nepal Army for polls.
The meeting also renewed its call to the poll-opposing 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist to participate in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the cabinet to be held today is already preparing to request the President for invoking Article 158 of the Interim Constitution to remove the constitutional difficulties in moiblisation of Nepal Army for polls, it is learnt.
The latest move comes a day after President Ram Baran Yadav asked the Interim Election Council Chairman Khil Raj Regmi to remove the constitutional barriers first, so that the national army could be legitimately mobilized during election.
The Integrated Security Plan approved by the government for the election has proposed deploying at least 61,000 army personnel, along with police, armed police and temporary police, to ensure free and fair elections of the second Constituent Assembly in November this year. nepalnews.com
