NC parliamentary board formed
The parliamentary board of Nepali Congress, responsible for selecting election candidates, finally took its complete shape on late Monday evening.
Formation of the board was delayed after two camps within the party, led by party President Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, stuck to their stance on the proposed names for the board.
A common understanding was reached Monday afternoon between the two camps after series of discussions.
“The party has called its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting late evening today to give the board its final shape,” NC spokesperson Dilendra Badu told Nepalnews.com after the leaders reached an agreement. “The CWC meeting is likely to form the board unanimously.”
The members of the body are Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Prakash Man Singh, Chitra Lekha Yadav, Ram Saran Mahat, Arjun Narsingh KC, Ananda Dhungana, Formullah Mansur, Sujata Koirala, Gopal Man Shrestha, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Bimalendra Nidhi. It will be chaired by party president Koirala. Purna Bahadur Khadka has been appointed the Joint-General Secretary.
Now the board will select names for the CA election. More than 5,000 possible candidates of the party are awaiting on a decision of the board from different constituencies.
The Election Commission has set the deadline for file candidacy under proportional electoral system on September 30, and October 3 for first-past-the-post electoral system. Nepalnews.com
