Nepal U-16 equalises 2-2 vs Iraq
Young Nepal came from two goals down to play a 2-2 draw with Iraq in their second group stage match of the AFC U-16 Qualifiers 2013 played at Dasharath Stadium on Friday.
Iraq's Husam Hasan and Ameer Sabaha scored a goal each in the 15th minute and 45+3 minute to give their team a comfortable lead in the first half. However, Nepal's young star Bimal Gharti Magar cut down the lead through a fabulous goal immediately after the start of the second half of the match. Then Nepal, well supported by the faithful home fans, continued to put the pressure on Iraq by creating many chances at goal. Nepal was ultimately rewarded for its persevearance after Anjan Bista scored the equaliser in the 80th minute.
With today's draw, Nepal and Iraq share 4 points each, but the latter remains at the top of Group C on goal difference. Both teams have also strengthened their hopes of making it into the next round.
In their earlier matches Wednesday, Nepal had defeated Bahrain 2-0 while Iraq had trounced Turkmenistan 8-1.
Nepal has been drawn alongside Iraq, Bahrain and Turkmenistan in Group C. Nepal will take on Turkmenistan in its last group stage match on Sunday.
All together 43 teams have entered the fray for this edition of the tournament and have been divided into 10 groups of five and four teams.
The 10 group winners and best five runner-up from all groups will qualify for the tournament in Thailand.
In another Group C match played earlier today, Bahrain beat Turkmenistan 3-1 to retain third place in the group with 3 points. nepalnews.com
