Nepal “serious” about exploitation of migrant workers in Qatar: Regmi
Interim Election Council chairman Khil Raj Regmi has said the Government of Nepal is very serious about the issue concerning Nepali migrant workers facing all kinds of exploitations and difficulties in the 2022 World Cup host country Qatar, which has even resulted in their deaths.
Talking to Nepali media-persons upon arrival in New York on Friday afternoon to attend the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Regmi said the Ministry of Labour is investigating the case and would make necessary recommendation on the next course of action Nepal should take in this matter.
He further said that the Nepali envoy to Qatar Maya Kumari Sharma was relieved of her responsibilities after making several diplomatic gaffes and failing to work for the welfare of Nepali people in Qatar.
The IEC chair is leading the Nepali delegation to UN assembly.
He is scheduled to address the UNGA on Saturday and attend other high-level meetings before returning home on October 1, according to the itinerary. Nepalnews.com
