Dhital, Shah set national records in swimming
Aditi Dhital and Sofia Shah of Lincoln School have set new national records in the NSA Nepal Ice Swimming Championship held at the Satdobato Swimming Complex on Saturday.
Dhital broke the record in the women´s 400m freestyle with the timing of 5 minutes 36.27 seconds. The previous record was set by Karishma Karki with timing of 5 minutes 40.88 seconds during the 10th South Asian Games in Colombo in 2006.
Sheila Gurung of Xavier Academy and Rashika Paudel of Pathshala Nepal secured second and third positions respectively in the same category.
Meanwhile, Shah improved her own national record of 1 minute 7.23 seconds in 100m freestyle with the fresh timing of 1 minute 6.12 seconds. The previous record of Shah was set during the 4th Junior FINA World Championship in Dubai earlier this year. Dhital and Gurung finished second and third respectively under the same category.
Shah also clinched gold medal in the women´s 50m backstroke clocking 38.26 seconds.
In the men´s section, Shirish Gurung of Nepal Police Club won six gold medals to tally his four to total 10 gold medals in the event.
Gurung won gold in 800m freestyle (11 minutes 0.85 seconds), 200m freestyle (2 minutes 15.16 seconds), 100m backstroke (1 minute 28.19 seconds), 200m backstroke (2 minutes 43.11 seconds) and 100m freestyle (1 minute 7.44 seconds) while he also clinched gold in the men´s 4x50m freestyle relay on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Gurung had set a new national record in the men´s open 200m individual clocking 2 minutes 30.25 seconds on Friday. The previous record was 2 minutes 31.87 seconds of Shailesh Rana during the Sixth National Games last year.
Gurung won gold in men´s open 1500m freestyle (20 minutes 57.97 seconds), men´s 100m backstroke (1 minute 15.30 seconds) and men´s 200m butterfly (2 minutes 33.32 seconds) on Friday.
Likewise, Sonira Bista of Nepal Army bagged two gold medals in the women´s 200m breaststroke (3 minutes 17.84 seconds) and the 100m breaststroke (1 minute 36.35 seconds) while Sheila Gurung won the women´s 100m butterfly with a timing of 1 minute 39.93 seconds.
Pawel Shah of Little Angels´ also stood at the list of gold winners as Shah won men´s 50m butterfly clocking 45.40 seconds, Rashika Paudel of Pathshala Nepal won women´s 50m backstroke in 46.11 seconds, Shreetika Singh of Lincoln won women´s 100m butterfly in 1 minute 35.09 seconds and Devesh Manandhar of Holy Garden claimed men´s 100m backstroke in 1 minute 22.92 seconds.
Swarnima Tamang of NOBS bagged women´s 50m backstroke in 51.03 seconds, Rojan Rai of Dikshant Academy won men´s 50m butterfly in 39.82 seconds, Kiran Karki of Baba Boarding School in men´s 100m breaststroke in 1 minute 25 seconds and Jayant Prakash Gurung of Dhumbarahi Swim Club claimed gold in men´s 50m butterfly in 31.32 seconds.
