Maoist, UML confirm FPTP candidates in 30 and 20 districts
The UCPN (Maoist) and CPN (UML) have confirmed candidates in 30 and 20 districts, respectively for the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP or direct) electoral system, as of Sunday.
The UCPN (M) has fixed electoral constituencies for most of its top leaders.
"Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been recommended for Kathmandu-10 and Siraha-5, and Baburam Bhattarai for Gorkha-1 and Rupandehi-4," said Posta Bahadur Bogati, a central leader of UCPN (M).
By Monday, the party will finalize all candidates for the FPTP system and by Tuesday, all candidates for the proportionate system, according to Maoist sources.
As for the CPN (UML), the ongoing meeting of its senior leaders in Kathmandu has brought the candidates selection process almost to an end.
The UML has finalized candidacies in all three districts of capital valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur). Similarly, candidates have been declared in Sindhupalchowk, Chitwan, Dhading, Rasuwa, Dolakha, Kaski, Rupandehi, Jhapa, Makwanpur, Baglung and Gulmi districts.
The UML has come up with some strict criteria for distributing the election tickets. Some of them include: no disciplinary action in the past, either victorious or second in the past election and clean and non-corrupt image, among others. Nepalnews.com
