Designer Mobile Set

Mobile telephone sets named after famous fashion brand Giorgio Armani and produced by Samsung Electronics are now available in the Nepali market. The sets named Giorgio Armani Samsung Mobile and claimed to be slimmer and lighter in comparison to competitive products are brought to Nepali market by ILS Tele-centre.

Samsung Easy View TV

Him Electronics (P) Ltd. has started selling Samsung Easy View, a new series of Samsung TVs, priced at a range between Rs 16,000 and Rs 28,000 and boasting five special new features: channel minimiser, channel scheduler, channel grouping, half mute and music mode.

Students in Made-in-Nepal Campaign

Second Hamrai Nepalko Pradarshani, an exhibition under the ‘Made in Nepal’ campaign was held from 5th to 9th March. The exhibition with total 80 stalls showcased products from cottage industries to big industries including the service sector.

During the exhibition, ‘collage’ and essay competitions were organized for the students from grade one to five and grade six to eight.

Malaysian Food

A sales mission from Tourism Malaysia led by its director general Dato Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg was in Nepal recently following which a weeklong Malaysian Food Festival was held at Soaltee Crowne Plaza (March 2-8).

Wincor Nixdorf Wooing Nepali Banks

ATM machine, cash dispenser, self-service kiosk, automated teller safes, transaction terminals and POS terminals from Germany’s Wincor Nixdorf International GmbH are now available also in Nepal. They have additional features like integrated security camera, motorized cash dispensing (up to the last note) and low power consumption.

According to Elite Networks, the Nepali distributor of Wincor Nixdorf, in India Wincor has deployed over 1000 “Kisan ATM’ specially designed for farmers in rural area. Kisan ATMs use biometric (finger print), visual and audio aids to dispense cash, making it easier for even illiterate farmers to benefit from the service.

StanChart Nepal Online

Standard Charter Bank Nepal has started online banking service as an additional convenience to its customers. The new service allows the bank’s customer to transfer funds through internet in addition to facilitating non-financial transactions.

Banks on branch expansion drive

Everest Bank has opened a branch in Lekhanath Municipality near Pokhara increasing the number of its branches to 24. The bank plans to open more branches at Narayangarh, Tulsipur, Bhaktapur and Besi Sahar in the near future. Also the Citizens Bank has opened a branch each in Birgunj and Nepalgunj. Meanwhile, Malika Development Bank has announced plan to open three extension counters in Achham and Doti.

Asian Life Insurance started operation

A new insurance company, Asian Life Insurance (ALI), has started operation from March 13. With ALI the number of life insurance companies in Nepal has reached six.

The company with a paid up capital of 360 million rupees plans to issue 30 percent of its shares amounting rupees 180 million to the general public within a year.

Bijay Kumar Sarawagi is the chairman of the Board of Directors of ALI while Babulal Agrawal, Rajesh Lal Shrestha, Ramesh Kumar Bhattarai, Bharat Bahadur Thapa and Motilal Dugar are the members. Out of the Rs. 252 million capital paid up by the promoters, Rs. 234.5 million is earmarked as security by the Insurance Board to safeguard the interests of those who buy insurance policies from ALI, says the company.

Ace gets Visa Membership

Visa International has granted associate membership to Ace Development Bank. With this the Visa debit card issued by Ace Development Bank can be used in Nepali and Indian markets. The bank has also started buying and selling the American Express Travellers Cheques.

Nabil Rated 5A2

Nabil Bank has been rated 5A2 by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), one of the world’s leading providers of business information. Nabil is the first Nepali banking company to get an international rating. D&B assigns four ratings from 5A1 to 5A4.

Customer Service Excellence with Pia Merilahti

Minds Nepal in partnership with Clearsight and Via Nepal organized a two-hour workshop on Customer Service at Soaltee Crowne Plaza on 27 Feb 2008. Sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, the event was attended by over 60 executives from various sectors. Pia presented 360 degree view of the concepts of Customer Service from that of a Customer to that of a company Chairman.

The discussions were led by CEO of Standard Bank Nepal, Sujit Mundul, CEO of Unilever Nepal, Kamran Bakr and other senior level participants.

Sanima Bank’s New Road branch

Sanima Development Bank (SDB) has opened its branch office at New Road, Kathmandu. The bank opened its branch also in Damak, Jhapa, recently.
