Nepal International Business (P) Ltd. has launched in Nepal what it calls the world's first 'netbook' made by Taiwan's ASUS company in association with Intel and Microsoft. Named Eee PC 1000H, the netbook is targeted to housewives, senior citizens, travellers, social networking enthusiasts, teenagers and people who desire an extra PC for basic computing applications, listening to music, e-mailing and surfing the internet. Also launched simultaneously in Nepal is Eee PC 900HD. The Eee PC 1000H with a battery life of eight hours is expected to retail at Rs. 48,000 while the Eee 900HD with a battery life of 4.5 hours is expected to retail at Rs. 40,000, says the company.

Mahavir Trade Concern has started selling Tata Green Batteries produced by Tata AutoComp GY Batteries, a joint venture between India's Tata Group and Japan's GS Uasa International.

Life Insurance Corporation ( Nepal) has, on the occasion of its 8th anniversary, started selling new life assurance policy called Beema Kiran which it is promoting as the cheapest life assurance policy available in the market.

Troika International Pvt. Ltd., the authorized dealer of Simple Diagnostics in Nepal, a leading US-based maker of Diabetes Management products, has started selling Clever TD-3018, a digital wrist blood pressure monitoring device and Clevercheck TD-4231, a blood glucose monitoring device. Both the devices are aimed at managing health of diabetic people or those who suffer from similar health disorders. The TD-3018 has a wrist cuff connected to the monitor and uses two 1.5V AAA batteries. With one-touch functioning system, it gives results in 20 seconds and also holds the memory storage for 352 readings while TD-4231 has a lancing device for safe piercing and is offered for 25 free test strips and 25 sterile lancets. It also features a strip ejection function, automatic alarm function and responds within seven seconds of putting to work. It has the memory storage for 452 readings. Both of the devices are enabled with PC download arrangement.

Hansaraj Hulaschand & Co. has reintroduced Bajaj Discover motorbike with improved digital features. According to a press release Bajaj Discover DTS-i 135cc is now available with new digital speedometer that is available also in Bajaj Pulsar. Also new in Bajaj Discover DTS-i 135cc are modified headlight and new tank flaps with built-in indicators. The starting price for the new bike with Disc Brake System is Rs 147,900 and for the one with Drum Brake System is Rs 140,900, says the company.

Hansaraj Hulaschand & Co has launched a promotional scheme called “Bajaj Bhagya Bidhata” for Bajaj motorcycles on the occasion of the festive season Dashian and Tihar promising three categories of lucky prizes to the customers. Under the Bumper Prize of the scheme, the company says it will present a Daihatsu Sirion cars to two different persons who buy Bajaj motorcycles. The company claims this is the first promotional scheme in the country to offer so many cars under a single scheme. In the second category of awards, the company promises to provide Samsung Homemaker Packs through a system of a lucky draw to 12 customers. In the third category of awards, the buyer of every Bajaj motorcycle will get a scratch card which entitles the buyer cash discounts up to Rs. 100,000.

  • Everest Bank Ltd. has opened a branch at Besi Sahar (which is its 27th branch) becoming the largest private sector bank in terms of branch network.

  • Nepal SBI Bank has opened branches at Baglung and Waling increasing the number of its branches to 17. The bank plans to open branches also at six other places this year including Surkhet, Ghorahi, Tamghas, Tansen and Itahari.

  • Sunrise Bank has opened a branch at Kalimati and another at Dhangadhi increasing the number of its branches to eight. The bank plans to increase the number of its branches to ten before Dashain festival.

  • Siddhartha Bank has opened a new branch at Patan Dhoka of Lalitpur and Old Baneswor of Kathmandu increasing the number of its branches to 10.

  • Laxmi Bank has opened a branch at Bhatbhateni of Kathmandu which is its 14th branch.

  • Kasthamandap Development Bank has opened two more branches at Satdobato of Lalitpur and Gongabu of Kathmandu increasing the number of its branches to seven.

  • NMB Bank has opened a branch at Banepa which is its second branch. The bank plans to open one branch at Durbarmarg in the near future and four more within the current fiscal year.

  • Central Finance Ltd. has opened a branch at Chabahil of Kathmandu.

  • Kamana Development Bank Ltd. has opened its second branch (at Pokhara) within the first year of its operation. Its first branch is located at Dumre of Tanahun.

  • Bank of Asia Nepal Ltd. has opened branches at Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur and at Banepa of Kavre increasing its total number of branches to eight. It is further planning to open two more branches at Birtamod of Jhapa and Kalanki of Kathmandu before the Dashain festival.

  • Kist Merchant Banking and Finance Limited has opened its seventh branch (at Nepalgunj).

  • Kumari Bank Limited has opened a new branch at Birtamod which is its 15th branch.

  • Jyoti Development Bank has announced plan to start ATM service before Dashain. It has reached an agreement with SCT Network for the operation

  • Nepal Share Market & Finance opened a branch at Baneswor of Kathmandu which is its 5th branch in the country.

    Prabhu Finance Co. Ltd. has shifted its head office to its own building at Lazimpat with additional services of Safe Deposit Locker and loan against the pledge of gold. The largest finance company in terms of branch network, the institution plans to add four more branches within this year.

    • Asian Life Insurance has opened a local office at Birgunj of Parsa which is its 13th branch. It further plans to open branches at Nepalgunj and Pokhara within mid November and set up six more branches within this year.

  • Sanima Bank has started internet-based banking services. Under this service, the customers of Sanima Bank can check their account balance and transaction history, download account statement, request chequebook and transfer funds.

    • astriya Banijya Bank has launched Builders Loan under which builders and real estate developers can get various loans at competitive interest rates of 7.5-9.0 percent.

    • axmi Bank has started a new account called Super Woman Savings for the women aged 16 years and above with a minimum balance of Rs. 500. The bank promises to pay interest on the account at the rate of 6.5% per annum. As a special introductory feature, Super Woman Savings customers can also purchase various life insurance solutions through the bank and receive rewards up to Rs. 1,500 which can be cashed at Bhatbhateni Super Market and Blue Bird Department Stores.

Asian Paints Nepal Pvt. Ltd. is about to open its fifth wholesale depot at Nepalgunj which is its fifth depot in the country. Through the new depot, the company plans to build network of dealers to look after the distribution of its premium paints to far western regions of Nepal. A multinational company with its business portfolio in 22 countries, Asian Paints has a wide network of 300 dealers and 100 sub-dealers in Nepal. From its manufacturing unit in Hetauda, it produces brands like Apex Ultima Exterior Emulsion, Apex Exterior Emulsion, Royal Luxury Emulsion and Premium Enamel under ‘Premium’ classification and brands like Ace Exterior Emulsion, Tractor Interior Emulsion, Tractor Cement Paints, Tractor Acrylic Distemper and Decora Acrylic Distemper under 'Value for Money' classification.

U.F.O., one of the finest clothing stores of Nepal, is preparing to start selling two more sports brands, Puma and Fila, under its flagship, adding up to its wide range of apparels, shoes and bags. Best known for their football and athletic shoes and sportswear, Puma and Fila have been available in Nepal since 2003 and 2006 respectively but their stakes in import has been acquired by U.F.O. this year only through T.T. Enterprises and Everest Enterprises respectively. U.F.O. already operates chick outlets at Kathmandu Mall, Baneshwor, Kumaripati, Narayangarh and Pokhara.

Buddha Air has extended its operation with the inclusion of two ATR 42/320 aircrafts bought from ATR (Aeria da Transporto Regionale), a 50:50 joint venture of France’s Aerospatiale and Italy’s Alenia. The new planes will be carrying passengers to and from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bhairawa, Nepalgunj and Bhadrapur. The 48 seaters provide maximum passenger space ensuring comfort and safety, are environment-friendly and fuel efficient with lower operating costs, claims Buddha Air.

On its 10 th Anniversary, Yeti Airlines Domestic (P) Ltd., having served 19,08,550 passengers since its inception, awarded travel agents of Kathmandu Valley and outside for their loyalty and allegiance. With the fleet size of 5 Tusin Otters and 6 Jetstreams, the airlines has been covering 29 destinations including remote mid-west and far-west regions of Nepal. It is the only domestic airline with its own hanger and facility for ‘C’ Check.

The country’s biggest supermarket, Bhatbhateni, is all set for an ambitious maneuver and the recent opening of an international standard Bhatbhateni Superstore at Maharajgunj, a venture worth Rs 750 million is a precedence of the ambition. Min Bahadur Gurung, Managing Director of the superstore has declared to open eight more ultra-modern supermarkets in different parts of the country within the next two years. Gurung has even affirmed to make Bhatbhateni the highest tax payer of the country within ten years. The supermarket is already the highest tax payer to the government among the retail business players. Gurung also divulged his plans to open 150 chain outlets in Nepal and abroad.

On its expansion spree, the supermarket will set up eight more branches in Koteshwor, Patan, Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Itahari, Butwal, Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj. The existing and intended supermarkets and outlets are believed to produce direct employment opportunities for more than 50,000 Nepalis within the next ten years, said Gurung. Meanwhile, he informed that Bhatbhateni Superstore at Maharajgunj has all the products—from day-to-day consumption items to high-end premium products. Also available in the store is ‘Refund, Exchange and Repair’ service. Gurung shared that what he started in 1984 AD as Bhatbhateni Cold Store with the capital of Rs 700 has now turned into Bhatbhateni Departmental Store, spread over 110,000 square feet land employing 350 people.

Oriental Builders and Developers have opened reservation for 'Grand Apartment' at Dhumbarahi. The first apartment complex in Nepal with an interior swimming pool is complete with all the modern apartment facilities like emergency exit, fire control mechanism, fitness club, generator backup, round the clock security and two lifts. The company, engaged in the housing business for the past 10 years, had previously sold houses and apartments at Kuleshwor and Dhumbarahi as well.

Spey Livet, a premium rare whiskey manufactured in Nepal by Himalayan Distillery is now also available in 180ml bottles, featuring a security cap and priced at Rs 180. It was earlier available in 750ml bottles.

Ang Norbu Sherpa won the second ‘Seagram’s Royal Stag Cup’ Golf Tournament and Myanmar ambassador U Aung Khin Soe held the second position. Pushpa Rai clinched the ladies title in which Shastika Shrestha was the runner-up. DHL has inaugurated its Country Office and Service Center at KUK Building at Sinamangal, Nepal, states a press release from DHL Nepal P. Ltd.
