In a San Miguel-sponsored expedition, Mountaineer Tika Ram Gurung ascended Mt. Everest with a flag inscribed with the logo of San Miguel beer. Gurung is a member of the Gurung Rastriya Parisad that organized the expedition called Gurung Sagarmatha Arohan Samiti 2065/66.
United Spirits Nepal recently held its second all-Nepal distributors meet at Gokarna Forest Resort. The meet was held to mark the sale of 90 million cases worldwide by UB group and 300,000 cases that were sold across Nepal. Nepal Life Insurance Company (NLIC) has commenced operation of its ‘NLIC City Centre’, an international standard shopping mall built by the company at Kamalpokhari. The mall accommodates 125 showrooms of various brands along with 15 restaurants. Spread across 1, 12,000 square feet area, the mall was built with an investment of Rs. 450 million, says its press release.
Blue Bird International Clinic is, for the first time in Nepal, starting bone densitometry service. In a press conference organized by the clinic, it said that it has already bought a Lunar DXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) machine from America for providing bone densitometry service. According to its press statement, the machine measures bone density using an enhanced form of x-ray to detect bone loss and will prove effective especially for diagnosing osteoporosis, a disease that causes weakening of bones mostly in women after menopause. Also, the clinic claimed that Nepali patients are forced to visit Delhi, Mumbai and Bangkok for bone-density scanning because of lack of the facility here. Bluebird Clinic which started its operation a month ago concentrates on physiotherapy. The clinic said that it provides physiotherapy service by means of electronic equipments along with treatment from physiotherapy consultants of Nepal Orthopedic Hospital. Recently, the clinic had organized a free service camp in which it provided free services to patients on general medicine, orthopedic and trauma, dental, cardiology, dermatology etc.
Nepal Credit and Commerce (NCC) Bank handed over an insurance amount of Rs. 4, 31,776 to the family of late Nanda Kumar Manandhar of Banepa, who was an account holder at the bank who died in an accident in India. The bank provided the amount under its free life and accident insurance scheme which is offered to its saving account holders. According to its press statement, the bank has already settled accident insurance amount of Rs. 1.1 million to the families of five deceased account holders along with providing Rs. 9,03,221 to 128 individuals as medical expenses under its free insurance scheme.

The demos have been agreed to be shown in selected communities of the Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City (LSMC). Everest Bank Limited has introduced branchless banking service, ‘Everest Ghar Dailo Banking Sewa’ in areas connected to its branches in Baglung, Bhaktapur and Nepalgunj. Under the service, EBL will appoint authorized representatives called ‘Business Correspondents’ in the selected villages to carry out banking transactions including collecting deposits and allowing withdrawals with the help of a specialized machine ‘Point of Transaction Machine’. The machine, connected with the branch of EBL by means of telephone line, will be located at various places. According to the press statement, each villager with an account will be issued a ‘smart card’ which will activate their accounts in the machine. The machine will recognize any of the ten figure points along with the photograph of the account holder which will be slotted in the machine. Jagdamba Steels, for the first time in Nepal, has started manufacturing structural steels. In a workshop organized jointly by Jagdamba Steels and Structural Engineers Association Nepal in Kathmandu, the company informed that it has been manufacturing structural steel, used widely all over the world in the construction of high-rise buildings and hydro-power and other large projects, for the last six months. The workshop focused on the use of steel construction rather than concrete.
Morang Auto Works (MAW) has started selling in Nepal Yamaha FZ-S which is described as a new version of Yamaha FZ-16 motorcycle.
