Remembering Legacy

It was enlightening to read the cover story on national reconciliation. At a time when the party formed by B.P. Koirala has been undermining his policy of national reconciliation, you have done a good job by pointing this fact out. This was the right thing to do. Although what legendary B.P. Koirala said has come true, Nepali Congress leadership has yet to realize it. For the sake of power, they have done every kind of anti-national work including sacrificing basic interests of Nepal. Your cover story highlights the basic things about B.P. Koirala's national reconciliation.

Sad Turn

It is unfortunate to say that those who don't have any faith in B.P. Koirala's national reconciliation are championing the cause of national reconciliation. All of them actively played key role to destroy his ideology of national reconciliation. They are today preaching it. This is very shameful and disrespectful to B.P. who is not only

the leader of Nepali Congress but a leader of Nepal and all Nepalese people. Nepali Congress has now become nothing but an extension of radical communist CPN-Maoist. I don't think Congress leaders have any moral rights to carry B.P's distorted message of national reconciliation. National reconciliation never urged to join hands with communists to abolish monarchy, a traditional force.

Suffering For A Cause

B.P. Koirala was a great leader who sacrificed all his life for the cause of democracy and nationalism. For the sake of nationalism, he suffered a lot. Unfortunately, his own followers are now sharing dais with those radical communist leaders who had made every effort to discredit him as an anti-national. I don't understand what sense there

is for Nepali Congress leaders to share political platform with communists. In the last elections, they have been completely uprooted in the elections by communists and their position was badly shaken because of crisis of their own identity. Even now they seem to be comfortable with communists who don't have any ideological closeness with Nepali Congress. I think time has come for the Congress to decide which side they prefer? If they want to have close link with communists and foreign forces, they must give up their stand on national reconciliation. If they want to continue relations with liberal democracy, they must toe the line propounded by B.P. The path chosen by B.P. Koirala is very difficult and tedious. I hope Nepali Congress leadership will decide their course in future. Just remembering B.P. Koirala on the day of national reconciliation does not suffice.

Small Step

Nepal has lost the property worth billions of rupees and precious human life annually due to natural disasters but only a small step has been taken to prevent such damage. Practical Action, a UK based INGO has rightly introduced the program for early warning system. After reading your special report, I have realized that we can minimize the damage of floods and landslide by introducing community based early warning system. Although Practical Action is a small organization, it has shown way to prevent the loss of property. The time has come now to make the department of hydrology and meteorology more efficient and effective to carry out early warning system. When the government is spending huge amount of money to declare martyrs out of anybody, what is wrong to spend some money to build an early warning system more effective.

Good Job

Practical Action needs to be congratulated for making efforts to develop early warning system in flood prone areas of far western region. The pilot program implemented by it has already made a lot of difference. This is the right way to fight the flood and natural calamities rather than spending huge amount of money to carry out rescue operation.
