Rural Settings

As Nepal is gradually moving towards modernization with introduction of telephone, electricity, road connectivity, they have brought drastic changes in the setting of Nepal, particularly the settings of rural areas.

One can see the process of transformation, which has been taking place in various parts of the country, in different settings of Nepal. This change has gradually affected the traditional pattern of rural life.

From dress to use of ornaments and way of living, one can see the change taking place in all parts of Nepal. Along with the change, the challenges of poverty are the stark reality of rural life. This is what artist Tamang's paintings have also shown. Tamang who joined the profession to modernize the traditional forms of Tamang paintings, has already displayed his first solo art exhibition in South Korea. This

is his second solo exhibition. The paintings pasted at the at the wall of exhibition was painted by him in the period of last one year.

"Although the urban areas lure many rural folks since one can have a lot of opportunity for his or her career, I have not seen the real life here. I believe that the life is there in rural areas where I find simplicity, cultural complexity and human touch," said artist Tamang. "Of course, rural life is not as easier as in the urban areas. Despite all the difficulties, the life in rural areas is full of happiness."

Reminding the harsh human trauma caused by the last twelve years of conflict, Tamang has also depicted the rural people who have gone through all hese difficult phasesof Nepalese society. There are darkness, desperation and tragedy but what one can also see is the life full of simplicity and common aspirations.

Painted by using oil, the paintings of Tamang are lively. Their price ranges from Rs.4, 500 to Rs. 18,000.

Young artist Nem Bahdur Tamang has a unique way of painting. Born in Bhedpu village development committee of Dolkha district, Tamang grew up in the hustle and bustle of the city. He used to visit his village during the festivals and special family gathering.

This is the time when artist Tamang painted the surrounding of his birth place, people and their hardships. He also paints the rural natural setting including mountain, rivers and the life of the people around it.

Graduated in Arts from Lalitkala Campus, artist Tamang is successful to highlight rural life. He minutely watches all the activities and natural surroundings before copying it into his canvas. The colors are perfect and matching with the situation.

The exhibition titled Daily Chores is now going on at the Art Shop in Durbar Marg.

One can see a rural lady washing her cloths, an old woman collecting fuel woods and a porter taking rest at sitting place with all loads. Some of his paintings capture the traditional things used for household purposes.
