Editor's Note

With the historic inauguration of Barrack H. Obama as the 44th President of the U.S.A, a new era has dawned, not only, in the United States of America but also in the world politics. A liberal democrat, Obama has generated high expectations in the hearts of both the developed countries and the poorer countries of the third world. Obama’s success has realized the four decade old dream of late Martin Luther King, who sacrificed his life for his people. The Black Americans have also overcome the hated segregationist behavior of their more affluent countrymen. It is a time to salute the American people for their courage and vision in ushering their great country into a realm where it will not only be feared but respected and loved also. But, Barrack Obama has not inherited a bed of roses. The stamp of the ugly American that had been profusely imprinted by the previous administrations will be difficult to erase easily, if not impossible. The Middle-east, Iraq and Afghanistan, the global terrorism, mending the Islamic and Latino fences, nuclear proliferation for the containment of China and the Frankenstein of economic recession are some of the major problems that may demand Obama’s unflinching attention. Any smaller man could be swept away by just one of them. But, Obama has already given the world an inkling of his individuality. If his simplicity, humility, understanding and utter objectivity are any reflections of the man that is going to direct the destiny of the world in the coming days, the picture looks rosy and generates much optimism. And specially, smaller and poorer countries like Nepal are expectantly hoping that their respectability will be restored and they won’t be looked at with borrowed eyes any more. They expect the representatives of the greater nation to their country to be more sympathetic and accessible. Since the days of inaccessible and arrogant kings and queens are the things of the past, such behavior from foreign representatives cannot be acceptable to the hosts. We do trust president Obama will also find some time to take personal interest in the affairs of the poorer and smaller countries of the world. Twenty five million poor Nepalis are looking up to him for the consolidation of their hard won democracy. We do pray to God that president Obama will be able to change not only the U.S. A but also the starving countries of the world. May God help him in this noble cause and grant him success in his mission of a “new era of responsibility” in “Remaking America” and the “ New World.”
