By A CORRESPONDENT
This is the world of violence and restlessness. The modern consumerism has made man most unhappy and busy all the time. This is the reason why there is quest for peace everywhere. Everyone is in search of peace.
This is what one can find in the art of artist Kishor Nakarmi. Peace and tranquility are two important parts of human life. This is the reason most of the creative persons always find interest to draw something to share on peace and tranquility. Artist Nakarmi has also put the calm and serene statues of Buddha in his canvas.
Inaugurated on February 20 at Art Shop, the works of Nakarmi highlighted the mode of peace and tranquility through the eyes of Lord Buddha and his meditating face. Along with divinity of the symbol of peace, his paintings also depict the sorry state of Buddha’s statues.
In search of peace and tranquility, artist Nakarmi visited various parts of the world looking at the statues. He saw many of Buddha’s statues are in bad shape. This was particularly more so in Bangladesh where statues of Buddha’s are in worse forms.
“I put forth my observation during my visit to countries like Bangladesh. Even some statues of Buddha’s in our own country are in very bad shape. I want to give message that the statues of peace are itself in trouble,” said artist Nakarmi. In his creation, the cracks and disfigurement have been presented well.
All the paintings are in the close up. Thus, artist Nakarmi is able to paint all the cracks and bad shape appearing in the face of Buddha. He uses various colors to show the bad shape of the statues as well as bad shape of the face.
There is less presence of bright colors like blue and red as he has mostly used dark hues which are close to the natural shades of these statues. Nakarmi has used mixed media.
His message is clear and concise as he wants to tell that like the disfigured statues of Buddha, his message of peace, too, has become disfigured.
