Kim Jong Un Makes Congratulatory Speech at Joint Meeting of KCU Organizations

Pyongyang - Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, made a congratulatory speech at the joint national meeting of the Korean Children's Union (KCU) organizations. He in his speech warmly congratulated the delegates and all other members of the KCU across the country on the anniversary being marked amid great care and blessings of the party and the people. He also extended a warm salute to their teachers and parents across the country working hard to bring them up stoutly. He said that June 6 is not only the holiday for the KCU but a significant one for the WPK and all the people.

There are in the world no such schoolchildren as those in the DPRK, millions in all, reliably growing to be pillars of future, rallied close around one and the same organization with red ties around their necks, he noted, adding: For the WPK and the DPRK, the beloved KCU members are treasures more precious than a hundred million tons of gold and silver as they represent hope and future. Admirable KCU members have done a lot of good things for the country and people, he noted, and continued:

The party and people regard it as great pleasure and pride to have such excellent KCU. The future of Songun Korea is very bright and rosy as it has such ranks of millions of juvenile revolutionaries. The KCU is demonstrating before the world its honor as a mighty organization of successors to the revolution as now thanks to the benevolent care of Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il possessed of the noblest love for the younger generation and future as their natural disposition.

There were no such great fathers in the world as the Generalissimos who put forward the children as kings of the country and devoted everything to the schoolchildren all their lives, regarding it as the most important affairs of the party and state to show love for the younger generation. It is the intention of the WPK to build the best thriving socialist nation and hand it over to the KCU members, he said, stressing that thriving Korea in the future will be the strongest country in the world in which happy laughter will be heard from every house and all people live in harmony.

He called on the KCU members to uphold this great country and build it more wonderfully, indicating the following tasks: The KCU members should learn from the glorious childhood of Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and reliably carry forward the lifeblood of the revolution holding aloft the flag of KCU after the flag of the immortal sun, always cherishing the trust and benevolence of the Generalissimos. They also should become genuine juvenile revolutionaries and guards in the era of Songun who safeguard the party like the heroes of the Anti-Japanese Children's Corps and juvenile guerillas during the Fatherland Liberation War and advance along the way indicated by the party. They should prepare themselves to be able revolutionary talents and pillars of a prosperous Korea who are knowledgeable, virtuous and healthy.

It is necessary for them not to waste even spare time but work harder upholding the banner of learning for thriving Korea. They should become exemplary members of the union who not only study hard but observe the socialist morality, always love the organization, collective and comrades, respect teachers and elders, have good hand in sports and do good things for the country. They should remember that the honor of being party members and winning the gold medal of heroes starts from the red ties and badges of the union and voluntarily take part in its organizational life.

The party puts great trust in the instructors of the union organizations and instructors of sub-branches of the union, said Kim Jong Un, expressing expectation that they would become genuine teachers who take good care of and love the KCU members as their real parents would do and lead them to bring their talent into bloom. Kim Jong Un said that the party and government of the DPRK will make it a priority of their affairs to bring up children, carrying forward noble love of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il for rising generation, and make every possible effort to rear the beloved KCU members to be the pillars of Songun Korea who are the happiest and excellent in the world.

Sri Lanka is ranked 103 overall and 17 in the Asia Pacific region, ahead of India (142), Pakistan (149) and Thailand (129). The Global Peace Index (GPI) is the world’s leading measure of national peacefulness. Now in its sixth year, it ranks 158 nations according to their ‘absence of violence’.

The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) which produces the Global Peace Index said the world has become slightly more peaceful in the last year reversing a two-year trend. The GPI produced for the sixth year ranks 158 nations using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators which measure ongoing domestic and international conflict, safety and security in society and militarization. Sri Lanka's score improved markedly for the second successive year in the aftermath of the defeat of the LTTE and the ending of two decades of war in May 2009, the IEP says in its report. The overall score of the Asia Pacific regions is improved by the largest extent from last year and included three of the top five risers, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Bhutan.

Pyongyang - The Korean Central News Agency released a detailed report on the grand celebrations of the 66th anniversary of the Korean Children's Union (KCU). According to it, the celebrations took place here from June 3 to 8. The celebrations were held most significantly thanks to the noble outlook of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government on posterity and future, an outlook which calls for regarding the work for the younger generation as the most important affair. The celebrations proved to be a grand assembly of successors to the Songun revolution as they instilled into the people faith in the rosy future of thriving socialist Korea.

More than 20 000 delegates were selected from all the primary, secondary and branch schools across the country. They included Jongilbong Secondary School at the foot of Mt. Paektu, Panmunjom Secondary School near the Military Demarcation Line and a branch school on Jamae Islet in the West Sea. They were invited to visit Pyongyang.

Children of ordinary workers, farmers, service personnel, scientists and technicians who are exemplary in study and organizational life were chosen as delegates.

No sooner had this exciting news reached every part of the country than an unprecedented festive mood prevailed in the country. Measures were taken one after another to ensure that the delegates took part in the celebrations without slightest inconvenience. Certificates of delegates to the celebrations of the 66th anniversary of the KCU were awarded to them.

The delegates visited the statues of Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill and the plaza of Kumsusan Palace of the Sun to express thanks to them for having provided all the children with an ample opportunity of learning by enforcing the universal 11-year compulsory education system and brought them all sorts of happiness, pleasure and beautiful hope and dream. At least 260 delegates were honored to receive birthday spreads sent by him. He sent gifts to all the delegates. All the blessed children left Pyongyang on June 9 amid the warm send-off of Pyongyang citizens.

Sobbing Kashmir

Alam Rind

The power of truth is such that it just can’t remain veiled even under the heaps of lies and propaganda. It simply blurts out of oblivion and makes itself known, frustrating efforts by states and powerful lobbies to mute or twist the facts. The same is true about the merciless killings of innocent and hapless Kashmir ’s at the hands of Indian security forces.

Under pressure from Amnesty International and other Human Rights Commission a police committee was constituted to investigate the issue of unmarked graves. The committee visited Baramulla, Bandipora, Handwara and Kupwara districts. Unmarked graves were spread all over the place making it impossible to refute their presence. What the team did was to record only those graves for which witnesses were ready to give written statements neglecting hundreds of thousands of graves where people out of security concerns opted not to give written statements.

To squash public sentiments and crush freedom struggle Indian government passed draconian laws under the garb Public Safety Act. Laws like Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act 1990 (TADA) and Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1990 (AFSPA) gave right to Indian security forces to kill any one in the name of combating terrorism and get away with it. Under the provisions of these laws, which gave immense powers to Indian security forces, Indian Government started detaining people in Kashmir for one to two years without trial. According to the estimates given by Amnesty International Indian forces have detained from 8 to 20 thousand people. A 2010 Wikileaks cable reveals that International Committee of Red Cross took up the issue of torture and unfounded detentions by Indian Security forces in Kashmir with US embassy in Delhi . India is holding on to Kashmir by deploying over 500,000 troops. That is enough to tell us the tail of Kashmir and the severity of atrocities confronted by the people at the hands of Indian security forces.

The tyranny that has been unlashed by so called secular government of India since its partition knows no parallel. According to recent Human Rights report between 1989 and mid 2010 Indian Army and paramilitary forces have killed 93,274 innocent Kashmir ’s. There have been 117,345 arrests and 6,969 custodial killings. Reportedly 22,728 women have been widowed and 107,351 children rendered orphan. As if it wasn’t enough 105,861 houses were razed to ground. Crimes against women included 9,920 gang raps. Indians may not agree with these figures and claim these to be fabricated. It is for the first time that a report prepared by its Senior Superintendent of Police acknowledges presence of unmarked graves in mass.

According to the report 2156 unidentified dead bodies of Kashmir ’s are still buried in unmarked graves. Out of 2730 unidentified dead bodies discovered, 574 bodies have already been identified as the dead bodies of the locals. The report rightly points out that these bodies could also be that of locals detained under enforced disappearances. That reveals the whole truth. The truth that the Indian security forces have remained involved in extrajudicial killings of Kashmir ’s. The stories of atrocities committed by them are true. Now Indian government is left with no option but to take the responsibility of all the ills committed to the unfortunate people of Kashmir . The struggle of the people of Kashmir for independence has to be acknowledged. The situation opens a new Pandora’s Box. It will be difficult for the Indian government “the biggest democracy of the world” to justify the excess committed by her security forces. They will not be able to satisfy global conscious nor will be able to justify their indifference towards the whole situation.

Human rights abuse is an unacceptable norm in today’s world. On this account Indians need to feel more responsible, especially once it wishes to be a regional power. To achieve her desired ambition, peace in the region is of paramount importance. That would be well served if she acknowledges the right of the people of Kashmir . An amicable resolution of Kashmir problem will pave way to better relations with Pakistan and will also open trade opportunities with Afghanistan . The whole regional paradigm will change if the people of Kashmir are given their due rights. It all depends upon the wisdom, will and statesmanship of the Indian leadership. If they brush this ugly facet of theirs under the carpet depravity and conflict in the region will persist. But if they face the facts and come up with a principle based approach prosperity and peace will prevail all over the region.

US Responsibility for Cross Pak-Afghan Border Attacks

Momin Iftikhar

While the third week of September saw an orchestrated verbal onslaught on Pakistan by US policy makers and military brass, alleging it of providing support to Haqqani Network, there remains an eerie silence in US politico-military circles regarding the string of Taliban attacks on Pakistani border posts in Dir, Bajaur and Chitral.

These large sized attacks sporadically delivered during the last one year were launched from areas under the operational control of the US led ISAF and their sidekick; the Afghan National Army (ANA) and were organized by well entrenched TTP and Afghan Taleban factions from bases maintained in border areas of Afghanistan.

The US desperate urgings for the overstretched Pak Army to commence operations against the Haqqani network in NWA stand in marked contrast to its turning a Nelson’s eye to the anti Pakistan witches’ brew viciously bubbling in the areas under its control on Afghan side of the border. What is hard to stomach is that while the Kabul attack on US Embassy, precipitating no US casualty was treated as an act of war, the US has persistently refused to accept responsibility for scores of casualties among Pakistani troops caused by Afghan Taleban and the TTP fighters operating out of Nooristan and Kunar Provinces .

While vicious attacks emanating from bordering provinces of Afghanistan have acquired a sickening frequency, two major incidents would amply reflect the pattern and perspective of such preventable aggression. In the beginning of June this year twenty seven policemen were killed during battles in Shaltalu area in Dir when five hundred terrorists belonging to Maulvi Fazalullah led group overran a police post. At least sixteen policemen were captured and then brutally executed by the attackers who released the video on the internet. Another major attack occurred in the last week of August when hundreds of armed militants from Nuristan and Kunar Provinces of Afghanistan , attacked seven FC check posts situated around Arund locality in Chitral. Some forty personnel belonging to the security forces including 26 personnel of Chitral Scouts, ten border guards and four FC soldiers laid down their lives in defense of the motherland. The attacks had been organized by Mullah Fazlullah and Maulvi Faqir Muhammad employing terrorists flushed out by Pak Army operations in Swat, Dir and Bajaur besides incorporating services of the Afghan Taleban. Just in these two incidents the Pakistani security services and police had sustained over eighty casualties without the US accepting any responsibility or suffering any pang of conscience over its failure in preventing the attacks launched from areas under its control. It is not hard to visualize what the consequences would have been for Pakistan, had a fraction of these casualties been inflicted upon the US/NATO forces by any adverse breech of the Pak-Afghan border from the Pakistani side.

For the Haqqani Network obsessed American soldiers and diplomats the presence of anti Pakistan terrorist factions on Afghan side evokes no concern while the consequence for Pakistan are painful to the extreme. Afghan based terrorists are attacking Pakistani posts with impunity and are extending their activities to the major cities in Pakistan . Lack of action by US Forces has permitted the anti Pakistan Taleban element to rule the roost in Nooristan and Kunar Provinces . It is worth recalling that on the pretext to cut down its casualties the US Army has pulled out its troops from the former while only maintaining a nominal writ in the latter. This has permitted Maulvi Fazlullah of Swat fame to fill in the vacuum as a major war lord commanding a force of a thousand fighters equipped with advanced weapons and state of the art communication equipment. The US induced freedom of action has even allowed him to overshadow the local Afghan Commander Dost Muhammad who is constrained to accept a subordinate position in an area considered the hub of anti Pakistan activities.

Northern Kunar Province is the domain of the TTP affiliated Maulvi Faqir Muhammad who, commanding around 400 terrorists, has led attacks in Bajaur area of Pakistan . In fact the area between Kunar River and the border has become the hub of anti Pakistan operations. Faqir Muhammad is known to be operating FM radio stations on Afghan side of the border to raise funds, recruits and create anti-Pakistan frenzy. In Sothern parts of Kunar Province where ISAF works in close conjunction with the local administration, injured terrorists of the TTP receive medical treatment in the Government run Hospitals. Wali Muhammad is the key TTP Commander here enjoying support of intelligence agencies of India and Afghanistan . Nangarhar Province is the abode of Mangal Bagh the infamous terrorist leading Lashkar-e-Islam who is raking trouble in Khyber as well as Aurakzai Agencies. Qari Bashir operates from Logar and Kabul , Paktia-Paktika-Khost provinces are infested with TTP elements affiliated with Hakimullah Mehsud while Brahamdagh Bugti, stationed in Kabul is closely supervising and directing the activities of insurgents based in Kandahar , Helmand and Nimroz Provinces .

Juxtaposed with the US demands upon the overstretched Pakistan Army to expand its operations into NWA it is amazing to note the nonchalance with which US Commanders in Afghanistan treat the presence of key anti-Pakistan terrorist commanders and their forces in the areas adjoining border with Pakistan . Sustained by liaison provided by intelligence agencies hostile to Pakistan , this presence is malignant, leading to loss of Pakistani lives – among both civilians and those in uniform. Pakistan has all the right to demand of US to rationalize the presence of these anti-Pakistan outfits on the Afghan soil. If the US can hold Pakistan to ransom over the Kabul attack it itself has a lot to explain for failure to curb terrorism emanating from areas in Afghanistan where it holds sole responsibility for control. Or does it think that Pakistani blood comes cheap.
