KPA Navy Unit 155 Inspected
Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of the Korean People’ s Army, inspected KPA Navy Unit 155 honoured with the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment.
He was accompanied by KPA Generals Kim Won Hong and Hyon Chol Hae and KPA Lieutenant Generals Ri Tu Song and Ri Jong Mu.
He was greeted on the spot by the commanding officers of the unit.
He first went round the monument to the field guidance of President Kim Il Sung and warships visited by the three commanders of Mt. Paektu.
After reading the letters inscribed on the monument one by one with keen attention, he said that the unit is marked with many footprints left by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and recalled with deep emotion the unforgettable historic day when he had visited the unit accompanying the leader.
He said that the unit should keep the surroundings of the monument tidier, manage the historic materials well and conduct education among its seamen in an effective way through them so as to inscribe the leadership exploits of the great persons of Mt. Paektu in the hearts of a new generation of soldiers.
He once again highly praised the unit for such laudable military feats that startled the world by sinking the US imperialists’ heavy cruiser Baltimorewith just four torpedo boats in the naval battle in Jumunjin during the Fatherland Liberation War and capturing the US imperialists’ armed spy shipPueblo which intruded into the territorial waters of the DPRK in peacetime.
He stressed the need for the seamen of the unit to firmly take over the baton of the revolutionary forerunners, send the enemies into the bottom of the sea if they dare intrude into the territorial waters of the DPRK and thus further glorify the traditions of the unit which has demonstrated only victories, a stalwart unit, generation after generation.
He then boarded Patrol Boat 1003 anchoring at the moorage to look it round.
He said that this significant ship visited by Kim Il Sung four times, Kim Jong Il three times and anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk is the flagship of the KPA Navy.
After acquainting himself in detail with the unit’ s combat duties, trainings, performance of guard duty and combat equipment, he inspected flotillas 1, 4, 5 and 83 under the unit.
He guided the firepower training and tactical drill of Torpedo Boat 1213 in Flotilla 1.
He expressed satisfaction over the fact that seamen are undergoing intensive combat training and, at the same time, discharging their combat duty in a responsible manner while watching the enemy’ s moves for aggression with vigilance. He set forth the tasks for rounding off combat preparations and bolstering the combat capability.
He made the rounds of sailors’ rooms, education rooms and mess halls of the flotillas, paying deep attention to their living.
Expressing his expectation and belief that the seamen of the unit would faithfully support the Songun-based revolutionary leadership of the Party, he gave as souvenirs a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle respectively to flotillas 1, 4, 5 and 83 and had photo sessions with them.
Anti-DPRK 'Joint Statement' of UNSC Rebuffed
Pyongyang (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry Sunday gave the following answer to the question put by KCNA as regards the fact that permanent members of the UN Security Council issued a "joint statement" pulling up the DPRK: The permanent members of the UNSC which took part in the first preparatory meeting for the 2015 NPT Review Conference now under way in Vienna released a "joint statement" pulling up the DPRK over its launch of satellite for peaceful purposes and demanding it stop its nuclear activities and dismantle its nuclear deterrence.
This is a grave illegal action of violating the sovereignty of the DPRK and its right to use space and nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, pursuant to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK. The gravity of the matter is that the member nations unilaterally accepted the U.S. brigandish demand in contravention of the principle of action for action laid down in the September 19 joint statement, turning their faces away from the crimes the U.S. has committed by spawning the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through ceaseless nuclear threats and hostile policy in breach of the principle of impartiality. It is the member nations that have conducted much more nuclear tests and stockpiled much more nukes than other countries in the world.
They have no moral qualification to say anything about the nuclear issue of someone as they keep arsenals of nukes enough to kill the whole mankind hundreds of times. It is like a guilty party filing the suit first that these countries took issue with the DPRK which has been directly exposed to the threat of nuclear war for the longest period. They let loose such sophism at a meeting reviewing the implementation of the NPT in an effort to divert its attention in a bid to evade the fulfillment of the commitment to nuclear disarmament, prompted by their purpose to perpetuate their monopoly of nukes.
If the nuclear powers are to deter more countries from withdrawing from the NPT, they should respect the rights of all the countries to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes as required by the basic mission of the NPT, and stop making word-play and sleight of hand over their commitment to nuclear disarmament. Gone are days never to return when the U.S. could threaten the DPRK with A-bombs.
The DPRK, depending on its nuclear deterrence for self-defence, will firmly protect its sovereignty and dynamically push forward the development of space for peaceful purposes and the industry of nuclear energy and proudly build a thriving nation where its people will fully enjoy prosperity under socialism.

HR violations in occupied Kashmir
– Mohammad Jamil
Kashmiri leaders from both factions of Hurriyat Conference welcomed statement from Ban-ki-Moon on Kashmir during his visit to Delhi, expressing hope that the United Nations General Secretary would fulfill his moral responsibility by ensuring the implementation of the resolutions passed by the global body for a just and lasting solution of the 63-year-old issue. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during his hoped that India would find a way to build and strengthen partnerships of common ground with its neighbours and encouraged it to do “ even more” in advancing peace and security. He also told India that it was imperative for the country to tackle its own human rights challenge through legislation, policy and action to protect citizens regardless of gender, identity or social origin though every country faces such challenges. Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the resolutions passed by the UN on Kashmir were yet to be implemented, and it was the responsibility of Ban Ki-moon to ensure the implementation of these resolutions as well as press the Indian government to end human rights violations in Kashmir and annulling draconian laws like AFSPA.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations has asked India to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, saying it had no role to play in a democracy, adding it has tarnished India’ s image globally. Last month, Christof Heyns, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions told reporters after the end of his 12-day fact-finding mission. “ The AFSPA in effect allows the state to override rights in the disturbed areas in a much more intrusive way than would be the case under a state of emergency, since the right to life is in effect suspended, and this is done without the safeguards applicable to states of emergency.” The AFSPA - in force since 1957 in the North-East and since 1990 in Jammu and Kashmir - has become a symbol of excessive State power. Women and minorities - religious minorities, as well as Dalits and Adivasis - as well as human rights defenders, including Right to Information activists, are especially at risk, and their protection deserves special measures.
In the past, India made efforts through its lobbyists to remove Kashmir from the UN agenda. In fact, Indians hold important positions in the UN and also in American media who use their clout to create confusion about the issue. Last year, on a news report that Kashmir dispute had been removed from the UNSC list, Indian media tried to prove that the issue had not been mentioned since 2005. In Defence Forum of India, KP Nayar wrote: “ A review of the secretary-general’ s annual report on the work of the UN has also not cited the Kashmir dispute since 2005. But UN spokesman Mr. Grant categorically stated: “ The Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains on the United Nation Security Council’ s agenda, rejecting as inaccurate reports that it has been removed from the list of unresolved issues” . The omission of Jammu and Kashmir from a list of disputes under the observation of the UN Security Council was noticed by Pakistan whose envoy had lodged a protest.
India, however, continues its repression in Kashmir. Last year, Kashmiri leaders were not allowed to offer Eid prayer last year. The APHC Chairman had said in an interview: “ It is for the first time in 250 years ever since the institution of the Mirwaiz was created in Kashmir, the authorities did not allow Mirwaiz to lead prayers in Srinagar” . Mirwaiz Umer Farooq pointed out that not allowing him to lead the prayers is an extreme step by the authorities, however, such tactics would not cow down the people of Kashmir, and would continue their struggle for a lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute. It is unfortunate that Muslim countries and for that matter Organization of Islamic Conference do not show their earlier spirit when they used to support Pakistan’ s stance on Kashmir. More than six decades have elapsed, but international community shows insouciance towards sufferings of Kashmiris. Even those countries that had in the past supported Pakistan’ s genuine stance now suggest that India and Pakistan should resolve the Kashmir dispute through bilateral negotiations.
India should bear in mind that the Kashmir dispute is pending in the UN, and it was understood that the dispute was to be resolved within reasonable period of time. Since there is no progress on this dispute for over six decades despite holding number of negotiations including the stalled composite dialogue, Pakistan has the right to approach the UN with the demand to play its role and make arrangements to hold plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir as per United Nations Security resolution. In fact, Pakistan should not waste time and take the matter to the United Nations Security Council. There is no denying that state violence or counter violence never helps solve the problem; however international community should help resolve the Kashmir issue because tension between the two nuclear states would not only make the environment of the region perilous but also the world at large. The big powers should understand that India is trying to change the demography of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, and at the same time resorting to devious acts to prove that Kashmir movement is not indigenous. Indian intelligence agencies have planted groups in the militant organizations to perpetrate heinous acts and then to show to the world that Kashmiris are terrorists. Adrian Levy & Catherine Scott-Clark, in their book “ The Meadow: Kashmir 1995 - Where the terror began,” released in March 2012 (UK) claimed that 1995 kidnapping of 6x western tourists, (2x Britons, 2x Americans, 1x German and 1x Norwegian) in Anantnag district (July 1995) and their subsequent murder was carried out by group of Kashmiri militants who worked for Indian Army. The tourists were abducted by a terrorist organization Al-Faran, which initially demanded release of 21 persons including Harkat chief Maulana Masood Azhar and Omar Sheikh. One hostage escaped while another was beheaded.
Worried over increasing awareness about ongoing human rights violations in IOK through social networking “ Face book” and “ Twitter” Indian Police has recently launched a campaign against the users of these websites. Besides detaining/questioning scores of youth, cases have been registered against them under Information Technology (IT) Act to create deterrence for many others who want to express their sentiments against Indian occupation. Recently, Indian Home Minister P Chadbaram during his visit to valley hinted at making three amendments in the draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) leading to an unending debate within the political circles. Pro-movement leadership sees it as an Indian ploy to divert public attention away from freedom struggle. Actually Indian leadership is not serious to undertake any measures which may facilitate taking away any of the terms in AFSPA. Their aim and strategy is to gain time through ruses and tricks for psychological impact on the Kashmiri audience.

Koodankulam Villagers To Return Voter ID Cards
By People’ s Movement Against Nuclear Energy
Let's leave an Earth where our children and grandchildren can all play without worries." Yoko Kataoka, a retired baker from Japan" At 3 PM on May 6, 2012, the Struggle Committee, the community elders, women and youth met at the Committee Room near the St. Lourdes Church at Idinthakarai.
After long deliberations and discussions, we decided to return all of our Voter ID cards on May 8, 2012 protesting against the callous attitude of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. When they do not respect the hunger strikers’ lives and our people’ s interests, we do not want to vote for these selfish and anti-people mainstream politicians and political parties. We intend to return the cards to the Radhapuram Tahsildar (county administrator).
We request all our supporters in Tamil Nadu and the rest of India to return their Voter IDs to the local Tahsildar and express their opposition to the governments and show their solidarity with our campaign. Indians living abroad can return their Voter IDs to the Indian embassies in their respective countries. The situation of the women hunger strikers is very grim as many of them are fainting one after the other. A medical team of 3 doctors and 5 nurses came to check the strikers’ health. As the strikers get weaker and weaker, the communities are becoming more and more concerned. But our governments care little as they care more for the interests of Russian, American and French nuclear companies.
In the meantime, the political leaders and nuclear officials continue to fool our people. The Central minister at the Prime Minister’ s Office said the Koodankulam reactor would be commissioned in 40 days’ time. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has said that power generation will start at Koodankulam reactor 1 within ten days (from May 5th). But the NPCIL officials say that the operation may start much later.
Interestingly enough, no one is telling the truth because the capacity factor in the Indian nuclear power plants is only 40 percent. One nuclear official told us personally in a TV debate that it could be 60 percent at Koodankulam. This means Koodankulam reactor 1 will produce only 400-600 MW and not 1,000 MW. And the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister wants all of it from Koodankulam. The Kerala Chief Minister, who did not even know if the Koodankulam reactors had started functioning when we met him a few months back, wants 500 MW. Koodankulam is going to be a big international joke.

Jatuporn ready to join cabinet 'if asked'
Pheu Thai Party list MP Jatuporn Prompan said on Wednesday he is ready to work in any position the prime minister deems suited to him, including the cabinet - assuming the Constitution Court doesn't disqualify him first. He was responding to questions about a report he could be appointed a deputy interior minister in the cabinet reshuffle expected in June, after the five-year political ban on 111 former Thai Rak Thai executives expires at the end of May. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is the only person who can answer this question, he said.
Mr Jatuporn said he presently wears two hats - one as a member of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship UDD) and the other as a list MP. He would remain a red-shirt for life, but the Constitution Court was due to deliver its decision on May 18 on whether he would lose his House seat and Pheu Thai membership for having failed to vote in the July 3 general election last year. He said he did not know if he would be appointed to the cabinet, but if he had the chance to serve in that capacity he would be a minister for everyone, Mr Jatuporn said.
Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, as the Pheu Thai leader, said the party's executive committee has given Ms Yingluck absolute power to make changes to the cabinet. Asked whether Mr Jatuporn was suitable for a cabinet post, Mr Yongyuth said: "Why not? Mr Jatuporn is a democracy-and justice-loving person who understands the people's problems." As long as the court has not ruled otherwise, Mr Jatuporn is still an MP, he said.
Mr Yongyuth would neither confirm nor deny a report that Thaksin Shinawatra, the de facto Pheu Thai leader, had given the green light for Suwat Liptapanlop, a core member of the Chart Pattana Party, to help the government's economic team after his five-year political ban has expired.
He also would not comment about the possibility of Pongthep Thepkanchana, a former Thai Rak Thai executive, joining the cabinet.
Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister and UDD co-leader Nattawut Saikuar said any decision to appoint Mr Jatuporn a deputy interior minister lies with the premier.
Mr Nattawut said red-shirt core members should not voice their views on this issue. Many sides might see it as Mr Jatuporn being appointed because of "a deal" between the government and the UDD, but the red-shirt group had never made a deal or demanded a position in the cabinet, he said. "We're just players in a team and the decision to change the players on the field rests with the executives," said the list MP.
He said a cabinet reshuffle would not create divisions within Pheu Thai. "The party has a policy to change executive members periodically and everyone must understand the organisational behaviour," Mr Nattawut said. When reporters asked about a potential reshuffle in the cabinet, Ms Yingluck said she did not want to discuss the issue at this time.
"Let's just wait," she told reporters.

Li said Sino-Belgian relations had witnessed vigorous development in recent years, as both sides continued to deepen mutual political trust, push ahead pragmatic cooperation and promote cultural and personnel exchanges. China appreciates the Belgian government's adherence to the one-China policy, Li said, adding that it was in the interests of both sides to further develop bilateral ties on the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust and equality. He said he hoped his visit would deepen understanding between the two countries, expand cooperation and lift Sino-Belgian relations to a new level.
He said China has made great achievements in its economic and social development since the launch of reform and opening up more than 30 years ago. China has found a development path suitable to its own national conditions and will stick to it. China will continue to reform and open up to the outside world, promote a coordinated development between the economy and society, adhere to the "people first" principle, and further improve people's livelihood.
Reynders said bilateral ties had enjoyed a sound growth momentum since both countries celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties last year. He said the Belgian government would continue to adhere to the one-China policy. He said the Belgian government hoped the country could become a gateway to Europe for China, expressing a welcome for more Chinese enterprises to invest in Belgium and deepen financial cooperation between the two countries.
