Sheer negligence

The killing of Amar Lama, former driver of the late Madan Bhandari and Jib Raj Ashrit (CPN-UML leaders) clearly showed the incompetence and negligence of the police force. The police have sufficient information in this case—the taxi’s registration number, colour, make, model et al.

Once the information is passed on to the police at 100, it is the responsibility of the police in charge of the telephone to act immediately on it. It is irresponsible to say that this is not my area; call the other numbers and so on.

The appropriate action should have been like this: Those in charge of the calls should pass on the information by Motorola, for instance, to all the police stationed in different places of the city. If this technique were applied, it would have possible to nab the culprit within half an hour and could have saved the life of Lama.
