Hotel DE L’ Annapurna :

Where Guests Leave as Friends

For over 2000 years, the name Annapurna has symbolised all that is glorious in Nepal. A name that celebrates Nepalese culture in its many forms. Annapurna is the Goddess of plenty.

Establishing base camp at a gracious sanctuary in the heart of the city, Pagoda-roofed, like its much older neighbors, yet just as serene and timeless…….is Hotel De L’ Annapurna; No. 1 address in Kathmandu with its unmistakable uniform feeling: the welcoming and identifiable warmth of a Taj Hotel.

Situated on an expanse of 5.53 acres at Durbar Marg or King’s Way, the hotel is in the vicinity of embassies, consulates, key government offices, and airline offices in close proximity to the city’s financial district. Its matchable location makes it the most convenient base for leisure and business travelers alike. Best summed up perhaps by the fact that the hotel’s visitors arrive as guests and leave as friends and when they return, which they often do, they return to Annapurna.

The 157-room hotel includes 4 suites, 81 renovated superior rooms and 72 standard rooms with modern amenities. The hotel specializes in Nepalese, Chinese, Indian and Continental cuisine. Astamangal, the new Nepalese restaurant, serves fixed vegetarian and non-vegetarian thali. Arniko Room, perhaps the best known Chinese restaurant in the country, serves authentic Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine. Ghar-e-Kabab serves an array of Indian delicacies with Tandoori and Mughlai preparations in an unforgettable ambience with live Indian recitals every evening. The Coffee Shop with its international fare is the most happening place in town. The Juneli Bar, overlooking the swimming pool, serves exotic drinks and light snacks in a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Complementing the hotel’s services and facilities are a lobby level tea lounge and Cake Shop that offers a wide selection of lip smacking pastry & confectionery products.

The hotel’s four banquet rooms are ideal for large and small gatherings - from a 15 person board meeting to a cocktail party for 300 guests complete with conferencing and secretarial services. For a grand sit-down dinner for select invitees, or a large theme reception at the pool side lawns for as many as 1000 guests, the Hotel De L’ Annapurna provides a stylish and elegant venue for special functions.

Sporting and recreational facilities include the largest swimming pool in Kathmandu, tennis court, billiard / snooker room, fitness centre, massage salon, shopping arcade, beauty parlor and Casino Anna on its premise.

History

Hotel De L’ Annapurna opened its doors to tourists in 1965 as a 60-room hotel. Having a prime location in Durbar Marg, which is also important as it leads upto the Royal Palace. It was immediately a blessing for the discerning traveler.

With the influx of tourists growing each year thereafter, Kathmandu had been identified as an important destination, which prompted the hotel to undertake two separate expansion plans when 30 rooms were added in 1969 followed by an additional 60 room in 1978. During this period the hotel had its swimming pool constructed as well.

After April 1990 when the Indian Hotels Company Limited, operators of the Taj Group of Hotels took over the operations of the Hotel, it embarked on its first phase of a major renovation and upgradation programme. This has seen 81 rooms being completely overhauled and refurbished with amenities added to meet with international requirements.

Interior Design

Named after, and inspired by the ancient Annapurna Temple in the Asan Square of Kathmandu, Hotel De L’ Annapurna’s striking interior of rich, local marble and original" Tangkha" paintings is combined with traditional Nepalese – Tibetan designs creating an atmosphere of beauty and serenity. The authentic Nepalese color schemes, decorations and designs are carried through to the hotel’s public areas, functions rooms, restaurants, bar and exteriors.
