The eighth day of Dashai festival, the Mahashtami, is being observed by worshipping and appeasing Goddess Durga and her manifestation, the blood-thirsty Kali, through the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of buffaloes, goats, pigeons and ducks in temples throughout the nation.
