Experts along with Non-Resident Nepalis (NRN) have urged the government to take immediate measures to minimise the impact of global economic crisis in Nepal.

Highlighting that Nepal highly relies on foreign funds, they urged the government to focus on sustainable development of economy as global economic crisis could hamper the foreign assistance that Nepal is getting every year. Â

Speaking in an interaction programme in the capital on Monday, founder chairman of NRN Association (NRNA) Upendra Mahato said the remittance should be invested in the productive sector as proper ustilisation of remittance can practically save the nation from economic crisis.

Mahato urged the government to focus on the agriculture, service sectors, hydropower, and tourism sectors for the sustainable development of economy.

Similarly, former chairman of NRNA Devman Hirachan said that Nepal should learn more from other developed countries regarding working practices to bring changes in working habit.

He also said that lack of education and the centralization of development works to limited areas is also the cause behind lack of economic growth in the country.

Likewise, former Finance Minister Ram Saran Mahat said knowledge based industries is the best for gaining economic prosperity with economic freedom as economy through existing industries exists no longer.

Mentioning hydropower, agriculture, tourism as potential sectors for investment, former finance secretary Rameshwor Khanal said that Nepal need to have just favourable environment to attract investment in these possible sectors.

He also said that as tax is the main source of government expenditure, the value of taxes should be raised to increase revenue of the government to utilise it in other development and employment generating sectors. nepalnews.com
