Nepal will chair the 50-member Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group during the ongoing 64th General Assembly of the United Nations.

The country will take the mantle of chairing the LDC Group by replacing Bangladesh.

Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala expressed the view that the very step will be instrumental to raise the issues of the LDCs at the UNGA.

The LDC Group includes countries that are highly susceptible to the adverse impacts of climate change due to the increased GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emission of both developed and developing countries.

As some developed countries have shown willingness to forge an alliance with the LDC, it will help mount pressure on emerging economic giants like China and India, which are one of the major GHG emitters.

The UN and the World Bank have also urged developed nations to be morally responsive towards the pressing issue of climate change.
Â
The Foreign Minister will also attend another meeting of the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) at the UNGA.

According to Koirala, her foreign trip is also zeroed in on consolidating the economy diplomacy. nepalnews.com
