The business activities has been completely halted in the Tatopani border point as the custom office has been shut down since last three days by the locals protesting against the police administration's superfluous strictness in the check point.

Due to the protest all the vehicular movement and business between Nepal and China has been affected in the area since Sunday. The movement of locals has also stranded the vehicles carrying Chinese good being imported to Nepal.

However, the police administration claimed that the strictness is necessary to control smuggling in the check point.

The meeting with the locals to reopen the custom office has also failed on Tuesday as it ended inconclusively.

Tatopani custom office is the largest checkpoint between Nepal and China from where large number of goods is imported and exported. Similarly, the smuggling of red sandalwood, currencies, illegal animals' skins and other valuable parts, among others is also witnessed through this point. nepalnews.com
