The Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Means has directed the government to proceed with the works at the 750-MW West Seti Hydropower Project.

The committee on Wednesday decided to allow the government to carry out the project after fulfilling the legal obligations. The committee also stated that the project should be completed by 2019.

Earlier, the committee had directed the government not to implement the agreement signed with China Three Gorges Corporation (CTGC) for the time being, questioning its legality.

During discussion, some members of the committee expressed dissatisfaction over the agreement for the construction of the mega project, saying that the MoU was signed without coordinating with other concerned ministries.

The committee also asked the government to proceed with the works on West Seti through the Investment Board as recommended by its sub-committee.

Similarly, the committee also directed the government to go for Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) agreement in the Nepali currency. nepalnews.com
